Finitude is a series of songs for piano and electronics written between 2017 and 2020 which I am releasing one by one. The songs fit together as a whole but are able to stand on their own as well. Most of the songs started out as videos in my semi-regular improvisation series on YouTube. The Artwork for the songs was created by me using Blender.

The first in the series is “Fabienne” a song I wrote to a person with whom I shared much of those 3 years. Although the nature of our relationship changed since, those 3 years and the person will always have a place in my heart.

“Hinterhof” is the second song in the series.. This one is about courtyards. I like them. They are like a little city inside the city. Especially in summer I like to end my days on the balcony looking out over the courtyard watching the birds and listening to music. I hope perhaps you'll also find some joy in this song!

“Veils” is the third song I’m releasing. Veils is a relaxed piano centered song build upon a bed of synthesizers and sparse beats. It conjures the feelings of a summer night, reflecting and enjoying the athmosphere.

The fourth ob the bunch is “Soft Static” it’s a piece featuring minimal piano chords accompanied by sparse synthesizer sounds. The synthesizer features a technique called “cross-modulation” which is something really only possible with analouge electronics and became something I do quite often with my synth.

The fifth piece “Loss” was written at a very emotional moment for me. And I feel that the original take captures the energy of this moment perfectly. So I decided to center the arrangement around that first spontaneous. The piece features my friend and colleague Ben Winkler on Cello.

The sixth and last piece in this series “Saturate” is about dealing with frustration. Something I think we can all releate to in these times. Something that always helps me is sitting at the piano and letting it all flow out.
